Synopsis –

To mourn is to burn. And they’re ready to set the world on fire.

After a devastating loss, Cyra, Rheanna, and Aella must pick up the pieces of their broken kingdom and face the coming darkness.

The kingdom of Linnosa teeters on the edge of war with the Cleansers no longer lurking in the shadows. The rebellion rises, their power fed by fear, betrayal, and something darker stirring beneath the surface.

As old loyalties falter and new ones form, the sisters must place their trust in unlikely allies, even those who once walked beside the enemy. Love is tested. Blood is spilled. And when Cyra’s daughter Hollin becomes a pawn in the war for magic itself, the cost of the crown becomes terrifyingly clear.

With monsters clawing their way out of the deep and the Oracle’s true intentions unravelling, the sisters find themselves caught in a web of secrets, prophecy, and impossible choices.

Thoughts –

Kayla Cosentino has done really well with the second installment of The Sisters Who Were Promised Series. The stakes are higher in this book but she still takes the time to build on the relationships between the sisters, and show how each sister mourns the loss of Petra.

Each of the sisters have to learn to fully trust one another in The Sisters Who Mourn even as the dangers keep on mounting up around them. The bonds of sisterhood are certainly tested while they learn who they can and cannot trust. This is one of the things I really enjoyed reading in this book.

There are some new relationships for the sisters as well and I think each one is perfect for them. Atlas is a steady hand for Cyra and accepts Hollin as his own almost straight away. Their family unit is beautiful. Ripley is perfect for Rheanna. He gives her the strength to stand on her own two feet and realise that she also has a role to play. Kaelith is intriguing. I can’t tell if her and Aella will end up together, I hope they do though.

I would recommend this series to others and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, which I’m hoping will come out very soon.
